CWS Fundraise Your Way supporting Church World Service

We need to help refugees who face unimaginable challenges.
I care about refugees, not only as a CWS Board Member, but as the son of Hungarian refugees. My parents fled their homeland seeking safety and hope. Because of the compassion of strangers, they were able to rebuild their lives. That experience shaped me and it is why I am passionate about helping today’s refugees who face unimaginable challenges.
Right now, families who have already endured war and persecution are being turned away. Recent policies have frozen asylum applications and even revoked approvals, leaving thousands stranded and vulnerable.
Naturalizations and Green Cards adjudications are stopped. Our administration plans to go even further, by revoking past naturalizations and green card approvals, based on undisclosed criteria. To be clear, the vetting criteria never changed and was thorough. Unfortunately, how you look is becoming important.
I have seen firsthand the difference CWS makes for refugee families, providing food, shelter, legal support, and hope when everything else has been stripped away. But today, that lifeline is under threat, and refugees need your help.
Your gift can mean the difference between despair and hope. Every dollar helps provide food, shelter, and safety for those who have lost everything.
The freezing of all asylum applications as well as the revocation of previously approved applications, together with the recent travel ban, mean that CWS must expand its reach.
While the blitz of anti-immigration actions is intended to numb us, we must demonstrate impassioned caring.Join me in working toward a world where everyone has food, voice and a safe place to call home.
Your donation will support the life-saving work of CWS. Following are some of CWS on-going efforts:
- U.S. Hunger Relief: CWS provides critical funds to local hunger agencies, food banks and soup kitchens which are providing a lifeline amidst the backdrop of cuts to SNAP for refugees and other vulnerable populations.
- Refugee Services in the U.S.: Local CWS offices are providing case management and support to thousands of refugees who arrived here in the recent years – legal services, food support, job training, cash assistance for the new fees that the administration is charging for applying for work permits and asylum.
- Care for Asylum Seekers: For immigrants who are afraid to leave home and go to work because of ICE raids, we are providing cash assistance to be sure people are fed and shelter is maintained.
- Public Policy Advocacy: We continue to fight in court and in the court of public opinion – mobilizing a grassroots network of advocates to speak out for justice.
- Refugee Assistance Globally: CWS has expanded support for refugee populations who no longer have a pathway to the U.S. (Psychosocial support and cash assistance to the refugees who had flights cancelled and had to return to camps in Tanzania, Community Gardens in refugee camps to meet the increased food needs with cuts to US funding (on Thai/Burma Border, In Uganda, in Tanzania), Increased support for human rights workers fighting for refugees in Egypt and Indonesia,
- Emergency Food Assistance: New program in DRC and Uganda to meet massive starvation caused by conflict and displacement
- Ukrainian War response: Expansion of support to Ukrainian refugees and especially elderly and female headed households in Odessa Ukraine as well as in Moldova
- Hurricane Melissa Response: Disaster response and recovery in Haiti and Jamaica after Hurricane Melissa destroyed livestock, crops and water systems.
More than ever, we need your support and increased generosity.
Thank you
